HUGO CROSTHWAITE ACCEPTED TO BIENAL MONTERREY FEMSA OPENING
NOVEMBER 10, 2005


Pierrette Van Cleve is pleased to announce Hugo Crosthwaite's acceptance into the La Septima Bienal Monterrey FEMSA* de Pintura, Escultura e Instalación (VII FEMSA Biennial of Painting, Sculpture, and Installation). This prestigious competition opens November 10, at the Centro de las Artes in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

In 1992 FEMSA instituted this bi-yearly competition, the focus being to recognize, fortify and stimulate artistic creation throughout Mexico. Hugo Crosthwaite was one of more than 700 artists to submit two-dimensional work, and one of 32 selected. The jury chose two 40" x 32" graphite and charcoal, figurative works by Crosthwaite. Other artists accepted to La Septima Bienal Monterrey FEMSA include: Fernando Aceves, José Castro Leñero, Alejandro Pintado, Arián Dylan, Omar Gámez, Tomás Hernández Chávez, Elisa Lipkau, Lucia Maya, Gerardo Romero Sainz, Fabián Ugalde and Francisco Zamora.

Bienal Monterrey FEMSA is considered among the most prestigious international competitions. The selection process is carried out by a panel of judges who are widely recognized in the world of art in both Mexico and abroad. The members of the jury are not made public until after the selection of artists is published. The distinguished jury for this year's biennial is:

  • Karen Cordero - Professor of Art History at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and author of numerous publications on 20th century Mexican art.
  • Julian Zugazagoitia - Director at New York's El Museo del Barrio.
  • Sylvia Navarrete - Assistant Director at El Museo del Arte Carillo Gil (MACG) del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) in Mexico City.
  • José Roca - fine art curator and critic based in Bogotá, Colombia.
  • Philippe Louisgrand - renowned visual artist.

While the winners have already been selected, they will not be announced until November 10 at the opening of the exhibition. La Septima Bienal Monterrey FEMSA is scheduled to travel throughout Mexico in 2006.
