Maniera Obscura, an solo exhibition of drawings by Hugo Crosthwaite, has closed at ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries in Coral Gables. The exhibition was a tremendous success, attracting critics, curators and collectors from throughout the nation. Nearly all works were purchased by major collectors and museums. The show garnered several positive reviews as well as a cover story in Arte Al Dia International, the leading publication focusing on contemporary Latin American art. Arte Al Dia International is featuring the drawing Rejoneador Polidextro on the cover of their 109th issue. Famed art historian Edward Lucie-Smith penned a feature story entitled, "Hugo Crosthwaite: A New Post-Modernist".

ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries is now hosting its annual Latin American Invitational. Several of Hugo Crosthwaite's drawings have been accepted. The invitational was reviewed by Jose Antonio Evora, art critic for El Nuevo Herald, the Spanish version of the Miami Herald, who hailed the works of Crosthwaite. ("Mexican art is the best represented [in the Invitational], not only for the well-known names like Rivera and Siqueiros, nor for the invariable seduction of [Leonora] Carrington, but because of the new names, among them the name Hugo Crosthwaite has been calling attention." )

InSite 05 opens in San Diego and Tijuana this month. Last month, the festivities for the binational art exchange kicked off with the Auction & Gala. Two small cityscape drawings by Hugo Crosthwaite were donated to the auction and competitive bidding ensued. The drawings sold as a pair to a prominent San Diego collector.
